How to protect a WorkbookExcel''s Workbook Protection prevents users from:

  • Changing the structure of the workbook
  • Adding and deleting sheets
  • Renaming and moving sheets.
  • Hiding and unhiding sheets
  • viewing hidden sheets
  • Resizing or moving the workbook window

To enable Workbook Protection:

  • Click on Tools-Protection-Protect Workbook an select a password (optional)
  • Check or uncheck the Structure and Windows checkboxes

By default the Structure is protected and the Windows are unprotected.A common but not recommended use of Workbook protection is to stop users from viewing confidential information on hidden sheets. Workbook protection will stop the average user but not a determined or malicious user. Consider your audience (users) and the nature of your information.', '
